Retaining Walls for Meijer Store Site

WBK, acting as a subcontractor to SPACECO, Inc. prepared the design, contract plans, specifications and estimates for 4 distinct retaining walls at the site of a proposed Meijer store site.

Wall A: Retaining wall at the northeast section of the site is an approximate 830-foot long retaining wall that runs north-south along the east side of the Meijer building approximately 30 feet off the building line. The wall turns easterly and runs along the north side of the entrance drive from Perryville Road. Based on the preliminary design, the exposed wall height varies from 7 feet to 27 feet. The site parameters and construction sequence dictate that this wall is in a “cut” situation. Therefore, the proposed wall is a soldier pile and lagging wall and likely will require tie backs.

Wall B. Retaining wall at the southeast corner of the site is an approximate 480-foot long wall that runs north-south along the property line and then turns west. Based on the preliminary design, the exposed wall height varies from 3 feet to 12 feet. This proposed wall is a Mechanically Stabilized Earth retaining wall.

Wall C. Retaining wall at the southwest corner of the site is an approximate 1,060-foot long wall that runs east-west along the north side of the proposed detention basin and then turns north along the property line. Based on the preliminary design, the exposed wall height varies from 3 feet to 12 feet. This proposed wall is a Mechanically Stabilized Earth
retaining wall.

Wall D. Retaining wall at the northwest corner of the site is an approximate 400-foot long wall that runs north-south along the west side of an entrance drive and then turns east along the property line. Based on the preliminary design, the exposed wall height varies from 2 feet to 5 feet. This proposed wall is a segmental concrete block retaining wall.
